Agenda Highlights: Trade, Technology, and Defense Cooperation
During his stay, PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Key areas of discussion include enhancing trade and investment, cooperation in critical technologies, defense and security partnerships, and people-to-people ties. India and Australia are also likely to finalize the Mutual Logistics Support Agreement (MLSA) to facilitate military cooperation.
Quad Summit and Multilateral Engagements
A major highlight of the visit is PM Modi's participation in the Quad Leaders' Summit scheduled for May 24. The summit will bring together leaders from India, Australia, Japan, and the United States. The Quad is expected to focus on regional security, infrastructure development in the Indo-Pacific, climate change, and emerging technologies.
PM Modi will also meet with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the summit. These meetings are aimed at further deepening bilateral relations and coordinating on shared strategic objectives.
Interactions with Indian Diaspora and Community Events
PM Modi is slated to address a large gathering of the Indian diaspora in Sydney on May 23. The event, titled 'Modi and Australia: Shared Dreams, Shared Future,' is expected to draw thousands of community members. The Prime Minister will also interact with Australian business leaders and academicians to promote investment and educational exchanges.
In a statement, the Indian High Commission in Canberra said, 'The visit underscores the growing importance of the India-Australia partnership and the shared commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.'
