Sugarcane crushing for the 2026-27 season was officially launched at the MySugar factory in Karnataka on Wednesday. The event marked the beginning of the new crushing season, with authorities emphasizing timely payments and support for farmers.
Financial Incentive for Farmers
As per the government’s order, farmers who supplied sugarcane last year were presented a financial incentive of Rs 50 per tonne through cheques on the occasion. This move aims to encourage timely supply and reward consistent contributors. The incentive was distributed during the inauguration ceremony, attended by government officials and representatives from the sugar industry.
Government Support and Future Plans
The state government has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of sugarcane farmers. Officials stated that the MySugar factory will operate at full capacity to ensure efficient crushing and timely payments. The factory is expected to process a significant volume of sugarcane in the coming months, boosting local agriculture and the economy.
Farmers expressed optimism about the new season, hoping for better prices and smooth operations. The government has assured that all pending dues from previous seasons will be cleared, and necessary measures are in place to prevent delays.
Impact on Local Economy
The sugarcane sector is a key driver of Karnataka’s rural economy, supporting thousands of farmers and laborers. The timely start of crushing operations is crucial for maintaining income stability in the region. With the incentive scheme, the government aims to strengthen trust and encourage higher production in the upcoming season.
