PM Modi Meets BRICS Foreign Ministers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a series of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from BRICS nations, including Russia, Iran, Brazil, and others, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in trade, security, and multilateral forums.
During the meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, both leaders reviewed the bilateral strategic partnership and discussed regional security issues, including the situation in Afghanistan. They emphasized the need for a peaceful and stable region.
With Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, PM Modi discussed expanding economic ties, particularly in energy and connectivity projects. They also exchanged views on the Afghan peace process and the importance of ensuring humanitarian access.
The meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos Alberto Franco França focused on boosting trade and investment, with an emphasis on agriculture, energy, and defense. Both sides agreed to work closely in multilateral platforms like the UN and WTO.
PM Modi also held discussions with other BRICS foreign ministers, covering a wide range of issues including counter-terrorism, climate change, and post-pandemic economic recovery. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a rules-based international order and the reform of global governance institutions.
The BRICS summit, hosted by India, aims to strengthen cooperation among the member nations and address global challenges. PM Modi's engagements underscore India's active role in shaping the bloc's agenda and fostering deeper ties with key partners.
