PM Modi Meets UK's Starmer at G7, Highlights Trade Deal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, stating that the trade agreement between the two nations has created numerous opportunities for economic collaboration.

"Had a wonderful meeting with PM Keir Starmer in Évian. The last year has been outstanding as far as India-UK relations are concerned. The trade deal has opened many avenues of economic cooperation. Today's talks focused on how to add even more momentum to India-UK ties," PM Modi wrote in a post on X.

He noted that in an uncertain world, trade and technology are being misused for narrow interests, leading to a trust deficit in the international arena. Drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, he urged nations to focus on building trust and transparency in global partnerships.

India's Approach to International Cooperation

Sharing India's approach, the Prime Minister stated that India has always followed the principle of "humanity first," which remains central to its efforts, whether through the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuel Alliance, Mission LiFE, or the Ek Ped Maa ke Naam campaign. He added that this inclusive approach has made India the first responder when natural disasters strike various parts of the world, including cyclones in Sri Lanka, earthquakes in Afghanistan, floods in Mozambique, or hurricanes in Jamaica.

Speaking about India's inclusive and sustainable growth, PM Modi elaborated that the mantra of "Sarv Jan Hitaye, Sarv Jan Sukhaye" (welfare and happiness for all) has yielded appreciable results in fostering financial inclusion, health security, digital identity, technology-led empowerment, and women-led development.

PM Modi emphasized that international partnerships should move beyond the donor-recipient paradigm to one of solidarity and equal ownership. He also stated that the lack of respect for international law is the biggest hurdle to building international solidarity and must be addressed as a priority.
