Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a telephone conversation on Tuesday, during which they discussed the escalating situation in West Asia. Both leaders stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions and promote peace in the region.
Focus on Regional Stability
The leaders exchanged views on the recent developments in West Asia, particularly the conflict between Israel and Hamas. They emphasized the need for a ceasefire and the protection of civilians. PM Modi reiterated India's longstanding position in favor of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine issue, with Palestine as an independent and sovereign state living side by side with Israel in peace and security.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Beyond the regional crisis, the two leaders reviewed the robust bilateral partnership between India and the UAE. They expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, and technology. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed earlier this year was highlighted as a milestone in deepening economic ties.
President Al Nahyan congratulated PM Modi on India's successful chairmanship of the G20 and the recent Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission. PM Modi thanked the UAE President for his support and leadership in promoting peace and stability in the region.
Commitment to Humanitarian Assistance
Both leaders underscored the need for unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza and the release of hostages. They agreed to continue working together to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected civilian population. India has already sent relief materials to the region, and the UAE has been actively involved in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
The conversation concluded with an agreement to remain in close touch on regional and global issues of mutual interest. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, security, and prosperity in the region and beyond.
