Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Criticises Centre's Handling of Gulf War Situation
Punjab CM Slams Centre Over Gulf War Handling

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday criticised the central government for its alleged inept handling of the Gulf war situation, which has left many Indian workers stranded in conflict zones. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Mann said the Centre failed to evacuate citizens in a timely manner, endangering their lives.

CM's Strong Remarks

Mann stated that the Union government's response to the crisis has been 'lackadaisical and uncoordinated'. He claimed that several families from Punjab have approached his office seeking help for their relatives stuck in Gulf countries. 'The Centre must take immediate steps to bring back all Indians safely,' he demanded.

Impact on Punjabi Workers

Punjab has a significant diaspora in Gulf nations, with many working as labourers and professionals. The Chief Minister highlighted that the ongoing conflict has caused panic among these workers and their families back home. 'We are ready to assist the Centre in any way possible, but the primary responsibility lies with the Government of India,' Mann added.

He also urged the Ministry of External Affairs to set up a dedicated helpline and ensure regular updates to affected families. The CM's remarks come amid rising tensions in the Gulf region, prompting several nations to evacuate their citizens.

Political Reactions

The opposition in Punjab has also raised concerns over the safety of Indian workers. However, Mann's direct attack on the Centre is seen as an attempt to corner the BJP-led government on a sensitive issue. The state government has formed a committee to monitor the situation and provide support to affected families.

Meanwhile, the central government has defended its actions, stating that it is monitoring the situation closely and has made arrangements for evacuation if needed. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar earlier said that India is in touch with all parties to ensure the safety of its citizens.
