Sitapur Man Killed in Saudi Missile Strike, Body to Arrive in Lucknow Wednesday

Ravi Gopal, a resident of Badhain village in Sitapur district, had travelled to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on September 18 last year for employment at a plastic factory. On the night of March 18, he was speaking to his wife, Ritu, over the phone. The conversation began around 8:20 pm Indian Standard Time (IST) and ended abruptly at 9:53 pm following a loud explosion. His phone subsequently became unreachable, and the family was informed of his death the next day by his acquaintances in Saudi Arabia.
Swift Response from Authorities
Sitapur district magistrate, Raja Ganapathy R, took immediate cognisance of the matter upon learning of the incident. He coordinated extensively with authorities in New Delhi and the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to facilitate the repatriation process. Officials confirmed that all required documentation has been completed with assistance from the embassy, ensuring a smooth transition for bringing the body back to India.
The body is being handed over to an Indian national, Ravi Shankar, in Riyadh, who will escort it to India. Authorities have indicated that, subject to flight availability in the conflict-affected region, the mortal remains are expected to arrive in Lucknow on Wednesday. This timeline accounts for potential disruptions due to ongoing tensions, including reports of drone attacks and military actions in areas like Bahrain, which have impacted services such as Amazon Web Services.
