Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has responded strongly to Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena's remarks warning him against repeated protests and rallies over the viral "Cockroach Janta Party" (CJP) movement. Wangchuk called CJP a form of creative expression and urged the administration to focus on trust-building instead of fear.
Wangchuk's Response to LG's Remarks
In a detailed statement, Wangchuk rejected the LG's characterization of the movement, emphasizing that the CJP is a peaceful and innovative way to draw attention to the region's concerns. He stated, "The Cockroach Janta Party is not a threat but a symbol of resilience and creativity. The administration should engage with us constructively rather than resorting to intimidation."
Rejection of Foreign Conspiracy Allegations
Wangchuk also dismissed allegations linking the movement to foreign conspiracies, recalling that similar accusations were made against him during his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). He asserted that such claims are baseless and serve only to divert attention from the real issues facing Ladakh, including demands for statehood and protection of local culture and environment.
Call for Trust-Building
The activist urged the Ladakh administration to prioritize dialogue and trust-building over fear-mongering. "The people of Ladakh have legitimate aspirations. Instead of labeling peaceful protests as conspiracies, the government should address our concerns through meaningful engagement," Wangchuk added.
The exchange highlights the growing tension between the local administration and activists in Ladakh, as the CJP movement continues to gain traction on social media. Watch the full report for all key statements and reactions from Ladakh.
