Trump's Social Media Onslaught Coincides with US-Iran Peace Negotiations in Pakistan
US President Donald Trump embarked on a significant social media campaign on Saturday, posting multiple times on his platform Truth Social. This activity unfolded as official delegations from the United States and Iran convened in Islamabad, Pakistan, for critical peace discussions. These talks follow a recent agreement for a two-week ceasefire, which came after a month of intense warfare between the two nations.
Trump's Claims on Military Actions and Media Criticism
In one of his posts, President Trump asserted that the United States is actively engaged in clearing operations within the Strait of Hormuz. He positioned this effort as a beneficial service to numerous countries worldwide, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, and Germany. Trump emphasized that these nations lack the courage or determination to undertake such tasks themselves.
Simultaneously, he launched a sharp critique against the media, accusing outlets of suffering from what he termed "Trump Derangement Syndrome." Trump vehemently disputed reports suggesting Iran is prevailing in the conflict, stating, "The Fake News Media has lost total credibility... they love saying that Iran is 'winning' when, in fact, everyone knows that they are LOSING, and LOSING BIG!"
He detailed extensive losses on Iran's side, claiming their naval and air forces are decimated, anti-aircraft systems are non-functional, radar is inoperative, and missile and drone production facilities have been largely destroyed. Trump also noted that all 28 of Iran's mine-laying vessels now rest at the bottom of the sea.
Economic Assertions and Support for American Interests
Trump further highlighted economic dimensions, pointing out that empty oil tankers from various countries are en route to the United States to load with what he described as the finest and sweetest oil available globally. He boasted about America's oil reserves, stating, "We have more oil than the next two largest oil economies combined — and higher quality."
In another post, he addressed domestic concerns, mentioning he is closely monitoring fertilizer prices during what he called Washington's "fight for freedom in Iran." Trump pledged support for American farmers, vowing not to tolerate price gouging by fertilizer monopolies and declaring, "American farmers, we have your back!"
Background of the Peace Talks and Delegations
The social media outburst occurred against the backdrop of high-stakes diplomatic engagements. Delegations from both the US and Iran arrived in Islamabad on Saturday to participate in peace negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf, included 71 members, with top diplomat Abbas Araghchi among them. They landed in the Pakistani capital early in the day. On the American side, the delegation featured Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, arriving at noon, under the leadership of US Vice President JD Vance.
These talks represent a crucial step toward de-escalation, following the recent ceasefire agreement. The discussions are expected to address core issues driving the month-long war, with international observers closely watching for outcomes that could stabilize the region.
