The United States is making an all-out effort to strengthen ties with India, and it is doing so openly. US Ambassador Sergio Gor declared this week that the Trump administration considers India not merely a future power but a current one — a key global power centre and a trusted partner of the United States. Speaking in New Delhi following Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to India, Gor expressed strong confidence in the bilateral relationship, indicating that a trade deal could be finalized within weeks or months.
Four Pillars of Strategic Competition
The proposed agreement will focus on four critical areas: artificial intelligence, semiconductors and chips, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals. These sectors are described as the pillars of 21st-century strategic competition. Gor urged the global community to place its trust in India's people, technology, and capabilities.
India's Leverage and US Priority
For India, this represents a moment of extraordinary diplomatic and economic leverage. For President Donald Trump, India is no longer a long-term bet but an immediate priority. The trade deal is expected to be signed soon, cementing the partnership.
