Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil visited the Indian field hospital established in Turkey's Hatay province, expressing heartfelt gratitude for India's medical assistance to those affected by the devastating February 6 earthquakes. The visit underscores the growing international cooperation in disaster response and highlights India's role as a first responder in humanitarian crises.
Indian Field Hospital: A Lifesaving Mission
India deployed a 100-member team, including medical professionals and paramedics, to operate a fully equipped field hospital in Hatay, one of the worst-hit areas. The hospital, set up under Operation Dost, has treated over 3,000 patients since its inception, providing critical care, surgeries, and emergency services. The facility includes an operation theatre, intensive care unit, pharmacy, and diagnostic services.
The Venezuelan foreign minister toured the hospital on April 12, interacting with medical staff and patients. He lauded the professionalism and dedication of the Indian team, stating, "We are deeply moved by India's swift and generous response. This field hospital is a symbol of solidarity and humanity."
Operation Dost: India's Humanitarian Outreach
Operation Dost was launched immediately after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023, killing over 50,000 people and displacing millions. India dispatched relief materials, search and rescue teams, and medical personnel to the affected regions. The field hospital in Hatay is one of the key components of this mission.
India's efforts have been widely appreciated by the international community. The Venezuelan foreign minister's visit further cements the bilateral ties between India and Venezuela, which have historically been warm and cooperative.
