In the 2021 Assembly election, Paul Manoj Pandian, then contesting on an AIADMK ticket, won the seat by a margin of 3,539 votes. The runner-up was Poongothai of the DMK. The voter turnout in 2021 was recorded at 77.4%. This year, Pandian switched to the DMK, setting up a direct contest with his former party's candidate.
