In a significant political move, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) national working president Nitin Nabin chose Puducherry for his first official visit after assuming the key organisational role. The two-day trip, which began on Saturday, is widely viewed as a clear signal of the party's intensified focus on expanding its footprint in South India, especially with assembly elections in the union territory scheduled for next year.
Strategic Visit to Review Poll Preparedness
Nitin Nabin, a five-time MLA from Bihar and the first BJP national working president from the state, landed in Puducherry via Chennai. Upon his arrival at Chennai airport, he was greeted by a large gathering of BJP workers, led by Tamil Nadu state BJP president Nainar Nagendran, who accorded him a rousing welcome.
Soon after reaching Puducherry, Nabin immediately convened a meeting with the BJP's state core committee. The session was aimed at conducting a thorough review of the party's organisational preparedness and devising strategies to strengthen outreach efforts ahead of the crucial electoral battle. A party press statement released on Saturday detailed these initial engagements.
Call to Make South a BJP Stronghold
The visiting BJP leader also addressed a Shaktikendra Sammelan and held interactions with professionals, broadening his engagement with different sections of the society. In his address to party workers, Nitin Nabin issued a clarion call, urging them to work towards establishing South India as a "stronghold" of the BJP.
He emphasised the dual objective of strengthening the party's presence across the region and taking the agenda of development forward. The discussions reportedly centred on critical areas like organisational expansion, ensuring booth-level readiness, and enhancing outreach among various societal segments to consolidate the party's base.
Vision for NDA Governments and Development
Highlighting the BJP's broader vision for the south, Nabin stressed the party's commitment to firmly consolidating its presence in the region. The ultimate aim is to ensure the formation of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) governments in the upcoming elections across southern states.
He underlined that the party's focus remains on promoting development, ensuring good governance, and fostering inclusive growth across South India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Simultaneously, he pointed out the necessity of strengthening organisational structures at every level to achieve these goals.
Expressing strong confidence in the collective efforts of the cadre, Nabin acknowledged the crucial role of party workers in mobilising public support and connecting with the people. He thanked them for their unwavering commitment and active participation in advancing the party's mission in the region.
This strategic visit by a top BJP functionary so early in his tenure underscores the party's recognition of the importance of South India in its national political calculus and sets the stage for an aggressive campaign in Puducherry and beyond.
