Bokaro District Officials Launch Doorstep Voter Slip Distribution Drive
In a proactive move to enhance voter participation and streamline the electoral process, district election officials in Bokaro have rolled out a comprehensive campaign for the distribution of voter slips directly to the electorate at their doorsteps. This initiative is specifically timed ahead of the crucial municipal elections scheduled for February 23, covering both the Chas Municipal Corporation and the Phusro Municipal Council.
Key Features of the Campaign
Under this meticulously planned programme, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are tasked with visiting households across the district to personally hand over voter slips to eligible electors. This direct approach aims to ensure that every voter receives essential information without delay. During these visits, BLOs will also provide detailed guidance on the polling date, the exact location of polling stations, and the various facilities available at the booths to facilitate a smooth and efficient voting experience.
Deadlines and Voter Assistance
Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajan Nath Jha has issued a clear directive to all BLOs, emphasizing the importance of completing the distribution process by February 19. "We are committed to ensuring that all eligible voters receive their slips in a timely manner," stated Jha. He further advised voters who do not receive their slips to take immediate action by contacting their respective BLOs or registering complaints through the Election Commission's dedicated helpline number, 1950.
Clarifications on Voter Slips and Identity Requirements
Officials have taken steps to clarify a common misconception: the voter information slip is not a photo identity card. However, it serves a critical function by providing voters with key details such as part number and serial number, which help them easily locate their names in the electoral roll. This significantly speeds up the verification process at polling stations, reducing wait times and potential confusion.
Regarding identity verification for voting, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated that polling for the Municipal Election 2026 will be held on February 23. Voters are required to carry their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to cast their vote. In cases where the EPIC is unavailable, the Election Commission accepts any of 12 alternative photo identity documents. These include widely used items such as a passport, driving licence, Aadhaar card, PAN card, and MNREGA job card, among others officially notified by the commission.
Importance of the Initiative
This doorstep distribution campaign represents a significant effort by Bokaro district authorities to boost voter turnout and ensure a transparent electoral process. By bringing essential information directly to voters, the initiative aims to minimize last-minute hurdles and empower citizens with the knowledge needed to participate confidently in the democratic process. As the election date approaches, officials remain focused on achieving full coverage and addressing any voter concerns promptly.
