The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced the schedule for by-elections to three vacant Assembly constituencies in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. Polling is set for July 30, with vote counting on August 3.
Constituencies and Reasons for Vacancies
The bypolls will be held in Bankipur (Bihar), Datia (Madhya Pradesh), and Manjalpur (Gujarat). The Bankipur seat fell vacant after the resignation of BJP national president Nitin Nabin. The Datia constituency became vacant following the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti. The Manjalpur seat opened up after the death of BJP MLA Yogeshbhai Narandas Patel.
Model Code of Conduct in Effect
The Election Commission stated that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force immediately in the respective constituencies and will remain until the election process concludes. According to the Commission, polling will be held on July 30, while the counting of votes is scheduled for August 3.
Political Implications
These bypolls are significant as they involve key political figures and parties. The BJP will aim to retain Bankipur and Manjalpur, while the Congress will seek to regain Datia. The results could impact the political dynamics in the respective states ahead of future elections.
