EC cracks down on cash flow in Bihar elections

In a major move to ensure free and fair elections, the Election Commission of India has launched a massive crackdown on the movement of illegal cash, liquor, drugs, and other inducements during the high-stakes Bihar Assembly polls. The poll body has issued stringent directives to all enforcement agencies, putting them on high alert.

Enhanced Surveillance and Monitoring

The Election Commission has instructed agencies including the Income Tax Department, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, and Narcotics Control Bureau to maintain extra vigilance. Flying Squads, Static Surveillance Teams, and Video Surveillance Teams have been activated across all constituencies to monitor suspicious activities round the clock.

"All enforcement agencies working under the supervision of the Election Commission have been directed to take necessary measures to ensure inducement-free elections," stated an official communication from the poll body.

Comprehensive Strategy Against Electoral Malpractices

The EC's action plan includes:

  • 24/7 surveillance on borders and sensitive areas
  • Real-time monitoring of cash movements through banks
  • Enhanced checking at airports, railway stations, and bus terminals
  • Special focus on inter-state border crossings
  • Coordination with neighboring states to prevent cross-border movement of inducements

Zero-Tolerance Policy

The Election Commission has made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for any attempts to influence voters through illegal means. Strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the model code of conduct, with immediate seizure of suspicious cash, liquor, or other items intended for distribution among voters.

This comprehensive approach aims to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that Bihar voters can exercise their franchise without any undue influence or pressure.
