ECI Extends Voter List Deadline in West Bengal

ECI Grants Extension for Voter List Updates in West Bengal

The Election Commission of India has announced a deadline extension for voter registration and corrections in West Bengal. The new deadline is now January 19, 2026. This move aims to boost public participation in the electoral process.

Extended Timeline for Claims and Objections

West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal confirmed the extension in a press note issued on Friday. The original deadline of January 15, 2026, has been pushed back by four days.

This decision comes under the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls. The Commission wants to give eligible citizens more time to participate.

Forms and Submission Methods

Voters can now submit several forms until January 19. These include:

  • Form 6 for new voter registrations
  • Form 7 for objections to existing entries
  • Form 8 for corrections to voter details

There is no limit on how many Form 7 objections an individual can file. People can submit these forms in multiple ways.

How to Submit Your Forms

Voters have several options for submitting their forms:

  1. Directly with the Booth Level Officer at the polling station
  2. With the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer or Electoral Registration Officer
  3. Online through the ECINet App
  4. Through the official voters.eci.gov.in portal

For assistance, citizens can contact their nearest BLO or call the toll-free number 1950.

Verification and Accuracy Efforts

The Election Commission urges all voters to check their names in the draft electoral rolls. These rolls are available both online and with Booth Level Officers.

Prompt action is essential to ensure every eligible voter gets enrolled, the Commission emphasized. This extension specifically aims to improve the accuracy of voter lists before upcoming assembly elections.

Document Clarification

In a related development, the Commission clarified an important document issue. The Madhyamik Class X admit card will not be accepted as proof of birth during the Special Intensive Revision hearings.

This document was not listed as admissible in the Commission's original instructions from October 2025. Therefore, the proposal to accept it has been rejected.

The extension demonstrates the Election Commission's commitment to inclusive electoral participation. West Bengal voters now have additional time to ensure their voting rights are properly registered.
