ECI Extends Voter List Deadline in West Bengal to January 19 for Assembly Polls
ECI Extends West Bengal Voter List Deadline to Jan 19

The Election Commission of India has granted more time for voters in West Bengal to update their electoral details. The deadline for submitting claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision now stands at January 19.

Extended Deadline for Voter List Corrections

West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal announced the extension on Friday. The original deadline of January 15 has moved to January 19. This decision aims to give eligible citizens a better chance to participate in the voter list revision process.

The Commission issued Order No. 23/2025-ERS (Vol.II) on January 15, 2026, to formalize this change. The extension specifically covers the submission of Forms 6, 7, and 8.

Forms and Procedures for Voters

Voters need to use specific forms for different purposes during this period:

  • Form 6: For new voter registrations
  • Form 7: For raising objections regarding entries in the electoral roll
  • Form 8: For correcting existing entries in the voter list

There is no limit on how many Form 7 objections an individual can submit. This ensures comprehensive review of the electoral rolls.

Multiple Submission Channels Available

Citizens can submit these forms through several convenient channels:

  1. Directly with the Booth Level Officer at their designated polling station
  2. With the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer or Electoral Registration Officer
  3. Online through the ECINet mobile application
  4. Through the official voters.eci.gov.in portal

For assistance, voters can contact their nearest BLO or call the toll-free number 1950.

Ensuring Accuracy Before Assembly Elections

The Election Commission emphasizes that this extension serves a crucial purpose. It aims to ensure wider public engagement and improve the accuracy of voter lists ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal.

Voters should check their names in the draft electoral rolls immediately. These rolls are available both with BLOs and online. Prompt action will help ensure every eligible voter gets properly enrolled.

Clarification on Document Requirements

The Commission has clarified an important document requirement. The Madhyamik (Class X) Admit Card cannot be used as proof of birth during the Special Intensive Revision hearings.

This clarification comes despite earlier discussions about accepting this document. The Commission's instructions dated October 27, 2025, do not list the admit card as an admissible document for verification purposes.

The Election Commission stated clearly that the proposal to accept Class X Admit Cards as valid documents cannot be acceded to at this time.

This voter list revision represents a critical step in preparing for West Bengal's assembly elections. The extended deadline gives citizens additional days to ensure their voting rights are properly recorded.
