Ghaziabad: 21 Hearing Centers for 1.6 Lakh Unmapped Voters

Ghaziabad Administration Establishes Hearing Centers for Unmapped Voters

District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar has officially designated 21 specific locations across Ghaziabad. Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will conduct hearings at these centers. The hearings focus on approximately 1.6 lakh voters whose names appear in the draft electoral roll but are currently classified as "unmapped."

This classification means election officials could not verify their details against the 2003 electoral rolls. The district administration has already started issuing formal notices to these unmapped voters. This action is part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise.

Key Details of the Electoral Revision

The hearings are scheduled to continue until February 27. The draft electoral rolls were published on January 6. These new rolls show a significant reduction in the total number of voters. Officials removed 8.3 lakh names from the previous list.

This reduction represents about 29 percent of the old electorate, which totaled 28.4 lakh voters. Alongside this revision, the administration has also increased the number of polling booths. They added 134 new booths, raising the total count from 3,224 to 3,358 booths in the district.

Strict Directives for Government Officials

District Magistrate Mandar has issued clear instructions to all officials involved in the SIR exercise. He described the revision process as a "time-bound and sensitive exercise." Every official engaged in these duties must obtain prior approval before taking any leave. This rule remains in effect until the exercise concludes on February 27.

Mandar issued a stern warning regarding negligence or unauthorized absence. He stated that any such lapses would attract immediate disciplinary action. The administration is treating this voter verification process with the utmost seriousness to ensure accuracy and completeness of the electoral rolls.
