Internet Connectivity Issues Prompt Polling Booth Relocation in Ponda
The Election Commission of India has been compelled to shift a polling booth in Ponda ahead of the crucial April 9 bypoll in the constituency. This decision stems primarily from a severe lack of reliable internet connectivity at the original location.
Technical Necessity Drives the Change
An official explained that the booth had been housed at the Govt Primary School in Kelbai (Tambdi) Curti for several years. However, modern electoral procedures mandate that polling data must be uploaded online continuously throughout the voting day. The persistent internet issues at the school made this critical function impossible, necessitating the move.
The new polling station has been established at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Zingdimol Curti. This location offers robust internet infrastructure, ensuring seamless data transmission and compliance with Election Commission protocols.
Enhanced Accessibility as an Added Benefit
The relocation also addresses significant accessibility concerns. The earlier site at the Govt Primary School was situated in a low-lying area, which posed considerable difficulty in erecting a proper ramp for physically challenged voters. The new venue at Kendriya Vidyalaya does not require such modifications, as it is already equipped to facilitate easy access for all voters, thereby promoting inclusivity.
A Second Booth Also Relocated
In a related development, another polling booth in the vicinity was also shifted. This booth was located near a veterinary hospital in a building that has been marked for demolition. The Election Commission acted proactively to avoid any logistical disruptions or safety hazards on polling day.
The Commission's swift actions underscore its commitment to conducting a smooth, efficient, and accessible electoral process. Voters in the affected areas are advised to check their updated polling station details to ensure a hassle-free voting experience on April 9.
