Mumbai worker loses Rs 70k after clicking malicious image

A 32-year-old garment worker in Mumbai has filed a police complaint after his mobile phone was hacked and Rs 70,000 was stolen from his bank account. The incident occurred when he clicked on a malicious image on Facebook.

Incident Details

The victim, a resident of Kurla who originally hails from Uttar Pradesh, was working at a garment workshop in Saki Naka on May 18. While browsing Facebook during work hours, he encountered adult content. He clicked on a nude image of a woman, which triggered a series of events.

Immediately after clicking the image, his mobile phone began to heat up and became unresponsive for a while. Soon after, he started receiving text message alerts about debit transactions from his bank account. A total of Rs 70,000 was debited.

Action Taken

Realizing he had fallen victim to cyber fraudsters, the complainant dialed the cyber helpline number 1930. He was advised to file a complaint online, which he did. Subsequently, the Saki Naka Police registered an FIR and are investigating the matter.

Authorities urge citizens to exercise caution while browsing online and to avoid clicking on suspicious links or images. Victims of cyber fraud are advised to immediately report incidents to the cyber helpline.
