Kanpur Administration Launches Intensive Voter Enrollment Drive for Disabled Citizens

The district election office and administration in Kanpur have launched a special campaign. This initiative aims to include disabled people in the voter list under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program.

District Magistrate Chairs Key Meeting on Voter Inclusion

A recent meeting took place under the district magistrate's chairmanship. Officials discussed the identification, awareness, and enrollment process for disabled voters in detail.

The district magistrate issued clear directives. All disabled persons who are 18 years or older must be identified. They should receive active awareness to register their names in the voter list.

The magistrate emphasized that no eligible disabled voter should be left out. Every person must secure their right to vote through proper registration.

Using Coordinated Data for Effective Identification

The administration plans to use multiple data sources for identifying disabled voters. They will coordinate data from UIDID cards and beneficiary lists under social security schemes like ALLENCO.

Officials also received instructions to develop a special disabled icon. This icon aims to inspire disabled individuals and enhance the campaign's effectiveness.

Inter-Departmental Coordination and Key Dates

During the meeting, officers from concerned departments received specific instructions. They must work in mutual coordination to ensure the campaign is timely and result-oriented.

Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) and Deputy Election Officer Vivek Chaturvedi provided important updates. The draft electoral roll was published on January 6.

The Election Commission set the period for receiving claims and objections under the SIR-2026 program. This period runs until February 6.

Special Campaign Dates for Public Convenience

Keeping public convenience in mind, the administration fixed four special campaign dates:

  1. January 17 (Saturday)
  2. January 18 (Sunday)
  3. January 31 (Saturday)
  4. February 1 (Sunday)

These dates provide ample opportunities for citizens to participate in the enrollment process.

Forms and Procedures for Voter Registration

The SIR program, based on eligibility as of January 1, allows new voters to apply using specific forms:

  • Form 6 for including names in the voter list
  • Form 7 for deletion of names
  • Form 8 for correction of errors in entries and duplicate voter ID cards
  • Form 8 along with the declaration form (Annexure-IV) for change of address

This structured approach ensures a smooth and efficient registration process for all eligible voters, especially those with disabilities.
