The stage is set for the upcoming Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) elections as election officials successfully commissioned electronic voting machines (EVMs) on Thursday in Lawngtlai district. The crucial pre-election procedure ensures all voting equipment is ready for the December 3 polling day.
Election Commission Oversees EVM Preparation
The commissioning program was conducted at the Lawngtlai DC conference hall under strict supervision. Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Donny Lalruatsanga led the proceedings, assisted by observer Abraham Beirazi Khithie and election officer Collin Hlychho. Representatives from various political parties were also present to witness the process, ensuring complete transparency.
Election authorities prepared, verified, and commissioned all necessary EVM components for the district's 111 polling stations, which include one auxiliary polling station. Both control units (CUs) and balloting units (BUs) underwent thorough testing to guarantee their readiness for election day.
Technical Support and Voting Schedule
Technical experts from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bangalore provided crucial support during the commissioning process. The engineers confirmed that all machines are fully functional and comply with election guidelines, adding an extra layer of technical assurance.
Meanwhile, election duty personnel and drivers began casting their votes through postal ballots at a specially established facilitation center within the Lawngtlai DC office complex. The voting process ran smoothly between 11 am and 4 pm, with 107 voters exercising their franchise on Thursday.

The LADC election will determine the composition of the 25-member autonomous council. Polling is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, while vote counting will occur on December 9. For those election duty staff who couldn't vote on Thursday, another opportunity will be available on Saturday during the same hours at the same venue.
All procedures during the EVM commissioning followed strict protocols to ensure the transparency, accuracy, and reliability of the voting machines. The presence of political party representatives throughout the process further strengthened the integrity of the electoral preparations.
