Complete Preparations for Dampa By-Election
The Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer's office and Mamit district administration have finalized all arrangements for the crucial by-election in the Dampa assembly constituency, scheduled to take place on Tuesday. All polling parties and security personnel have successfully reached their designated polling stations as of Monday, ensuring smooth conduct of the electoral process.
Remote Border Stations Given Priority
State Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii confirmed that polling teams assigned to the six most remote villages along the Bangladesh border - Silsury-1, Silsury-2, Silsury-3, Zopui, Hnahva, and Lianbuang - received special attention and arrived at their respective stations a day earlier on Sunday. This early deployment to border areas demonstrates the election commission's commitment to ensuring voting accessibility in challenging terrain.
Meanwhile, polling parties for the remaining 35 stations reached their destinations on Monday under the supervision of General Observer MT Reju and Returning Officer Malsawmzuala. The officials formally flagged off the teams from the Mamit District Commissioner's office, marking the final phase of election preparation.
Critical Polling Stations and Voter Statistics
Voting will commence at 7 am and continue until 4 pm on Tuesday across all 41 polling stations in the constituency. Among these, three stations - Silsury-1, Silsury-2, and Silsury-3 - located near the Bangladesh border have been classified as critical polling stations requiring enhanced security measures.
A total of 20,790 eligible voters, including 10,185 women, are expected to exercise their franchise to decide the political fate of five candidates contesting in this bye-election. The election outcome will determine who fills the vacant seat left by the unfortunate demise of opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo on July 21.
The counting of votes has been scheduled for Friday, which will bring closure to this significant electoral process in Mizoram's political landscape. The efficient deployment of polling teams and comprehensive preparations reflect the election commission's determination to conduct free and fair elections in the region.
