With the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections just a week away, the city police have unveiled a massive security plan to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process. A significant additional force will be deployed across Nashik to maintain law and order.
Massive Security Deployment for Polling Day
The Nashik city police are pulling out all the stops for the upcoming civic polls. An extra bandobast of 2,700 personnel is being brought in to supplement the existing force. This includes 1,800 home guards and 900 police personnel drafted from areas outside Nashik city. They will join the 3,000-strong force already under the city police commissionerate, creating a robust security blanket.
Senior officers have identified certain zones that require heightened vigilance. Special focus will be on the Cidco, Panchavati, and old city areas of Nashik. In preparation, senior police officials conducted thorough visits to polling centres across the city this past Wednesday.
Senior Officers Review and Plan Security
Deputy Commissioners of Police from key zones personally assessed the ground situation. DCP (Crime) Kirankumar Chavan, DCP (Zone 1) Monica Raut, and DCP (Zone 2) Kishor Kale inspected various polling stations, particularly those expecting a large voter turnout. Their assessments are crucial for tailoring the security arrangements for polling day.
The bandobast is a multi-layered effort involving specialized units to handle any contingency. The security apparatus will comprise:
- Teams from the special branch and crime branch.
- Quick response teams and riot control units.
- The anti-gunda squad.
- Over 3,000 personnel ranging from Assistant Sub-Inspectors to constables.
- Approximately 200 officers including Assistant Police Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors.
This entire operation is being coordinated by 73 police officers under the direct guidance of Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik.
Security to Extend to Counting Day
The police plan does not end with the conclusion of voting. A tight security cover will also be maintained at the 10 counting centres spread across Nashik city on January 16. This ensures the integrity of the electoral process through the final stage of vote counting.
The comprehensive bandobast plan underscores the administration's commitment to conducting free, fair, and incident-free Nashik Municipal Corporation elections. Residents can expect a significant police presence aimed at facilitating a safe environment for voters.
