BJP's Bihar Triumph: NDA Wins 202 Seats, Opposition Crushed
NDA sweeps Bihar polls, wins 202 of 243 seats

In a stunning display of political dominance, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), spearheaded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has secured a resounding victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. The coalition swept the polls, winning a commanding 202 out of 243 seats, decisively returning to power and leaving the opposition Mahagathbandhan in a severely weakened state with just 35 seats.

A Decisive Mandate in Bihar

The BJP emerged as the single largest party within the alliance, bagging 89 seats. Its key allies also delivered a strong performance, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) winning 85 seats and Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) securing 19 seats. On the other side, the opposition's fortunes plummeted. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the lead party of the Mahagathbandhan, saw its tally shrink to 25 seats, while the Congress managed to win a mere 6 seats.

This victory in November 2025 reinforces the NDA's stronghold in the state, which was previously demonstrated during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In that national poll, the NDA had won 30 out of Bihar's 40 parliamentary seats.

The BJP Juggernaut Rolls On Across India

The Bihar result is not an isolated incident but part of a larger pattern of the BJP's electoral supremacy, achieved either independently or through its NDA partnerships, which has decimated opposition forces in multiple states over recent years.

Maharashtra: A Dramatic Turnaround

In the November 2024 elections for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, the NDA coalition, or 'Mahayuti', recorded a landslide victory by winning 232 seats. The BJP was at the forefront with 132 seats, followed by the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena (57 seats) and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP (41 seats). The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was reduced to just 46 seats. This was a remarkable reversal from the Lok Sabha polls just six months prior, where the MVA had won 30 seats compared to the NDA's 17.

Odisha: The End of an Era

The 2024 Odisha Assembly elections marked a historic moment as the BJP swept to power on its own, ending the five-term reign of Naveen Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The BJP won 78 of the state's 147 seats, while the BJD secured 51. In the simultaneous Lok Sabha polls, the BJP's dominance was even more absolute, winning 20 of Odisha's 21 parliamentary seats.

Andhra Pradesh: An NDA Whitewash

Andhra Pradesh witnessed a clean sweep by the NDA in its simultaneous 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. The alliance, comprising the TDP, Janasena Party, and BJP, won 21 of 25 Lok Sabha seats. In the Assembly, the NDA secured a massive 164 of 175 seats, reducing the incumbent YSRCP to a mere 11 seats.

Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat: Fortresses Held

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP consolidated its power in the November 2023 Assembly polls, winning 163 of 230 seats. It later replicated this success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by winning all 29 seats in the state. Similarly, in Gujarat's December 2022 Assembly polls, the BJP registered a record-breaking victory, securing 156 of 182 seats, its highest tally ever in the state.

A Consolidated Political Landscape

The consecutive and emphatic victories from Gujarat to Odisha, and now in Bihar, underscore a significant consolidation of the BJP-led NDA's presence across the Indian political landscape. The party's strategy of fighting either solo or through strong alliances has repeatedly paid rich dividends, leaving a fragmented opposition struggling to find a foothold. The results from these key states signal a clear political trend that is likely to shape national politics for the foreseeable future.
