Massive Digitisation Milestone in Punjab's Electoral Roll Revision
Punjab's Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra announced on Saturday that over 1 crore enumeration forms have been successfully digitised within the first 16 days of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The achievement marks a significant step in updating the state's electoral rolls.
According to Mitra, 99.34 per cent of enumeration forms have already been distributed, ensuring near-universal outreach to the electorate. She emphasised that the collection and digitisation of these forms is vital for maintaining accurate electoral rolls and strengthening the democratic process.
Special Camps Scheduled for July 11-12
To further accelerate the exercise and encourage greater public participation, two-day special camps have been organised across Punjab on July 11 and 12, operating from 8 am to 3 pm at all polling stations. During these camps, the remaining enumeration forms will be filled, collected and digitised. Anomalies and linkage discrepancies will be addressed, and citizens will be assisted in updating and verifying their electoral details.
Mitra appreciated the efforts of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), supervisors, assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) and electoral registration officers (EROs). She noted that their timely work ensured distribution, collection and digitisation across all 117 assembly constituencies and 24,453 polling stations in the state.
Timeline for Electoral Roll Finalisation
The SIR exercise, running from June 25 to July 24, involves 24,453 BLOs reaching out to over 2.14 crore electors across Punjab. Mitra stated that rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by July 24, followed by the publication of draft electoral rolls on August 3.
Claims and objections may be filed from August 3 to September 2, with disposal of those claims and objections carried out between August 3 and September 28. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 1.
Call for Public Participation
Mitra urged all eligible citizens to actively participate in the special camps and ensure that their electoral details are complete, accurate and up to date. "This will contribute to free, fair and transparent elections," she said in a statement.
