Over 2,100 BLOs conduct door-to-door voter verification in Amritsar

The district administration in Amritsar has ramped up the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, deploying over 2,100 Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) to conduct door-to-door verification across all 11 Assembly constituencies. The drive aims to ensure every eligible citizen is enrolled before the publication of the revised rolls.

According to Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dalwinderjit Singh, a total of 2,134 BLOs are visiting households to distribute enumeration forms and assist voters in filling them out correctly. The administration has also mobilized 11 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 22 Assistant EROs, 110 Additional Assistant EROs, and 213 Sector Officers to oversee the campaign.

Timeline for electoral roll revision

The District Election Officer confirmed that the rationalization of polling stations will be completed by July 24. The draft electoral rolls are scheduled for publication on August 3, after which claims and objections can be filed from August 3 to September 2. These will be disposed of by September 28, and the final electoral rolls are set to be published on October 1.

Singh emphasized the administration's commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is left out and that no ineligible person is included in the rolls.

Field monitoring and digitization

As part of field monitoring, Electoral Registration Officer for Amritsar North, Inayat, visited the Faizpura area to inspect the door-to-door enumeration. She urged residents to submit their forms to BLOs before July 15 to facilitate inclusion in the electoral rolls.

Meanwhile, a dedicated sub-centre has been set up at ITI (Women), Beri Gate, in the Amritsar Central Assembly constituency to expedite digitization. Electoral Registration Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rupinder Singh said officials are working to speed up the process.

First SIR since 2003

Dr. Singh noted that the Special Intensive Revision is being undertaken in Punjab for the first time since 2003. The exercise aims to update voter records by enrolling eligible citizens while removing duplicate, deceased, and permanently shifted voters.

Executive Officer Dinesh Suri and SVEEP Nodal Officer Navjot Singh Dhoot also inspected the digitization centre and reviewed the progress of the exercise.
