In a decisive move to uphold electoral integrity, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) launched a massive enforcement drive, removing a staggering 4,819 unauthorised political advertisements across the city. This action came swiftly after the State Election Commission (SEC) announced the municipal corporation elections and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force.
Swift Action to Ensure a Level Playing Field
The crackdown, executed on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, was a direct response to the enforcement of the election code. The administration, led by Municipal Commissioner and Election Officer Shravan Hardikar, prioritized the removal of all political materials installed without permission to prevent any undue influence on voters.
"Strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct is essential to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process," stated Hardikar. He emphasized that timely preventive measures were taken and all political stakeholders are expected to adhere strictly to the prescribed norms.
City-Wide Drive Targets Major Public Spaces
The operation was carried out by the civic body's Sky Signs and Licensing department. Teams fanned out across the city, targeting:
- Major junctions and arterial roads
- Public places and squares
- Areas surrounding government buildings
The types of materials removed included political flexes, banners, kiosks, stickers, hoardings, flags, signboards, and wall advertisements. The drive was implemented on a priority basis to maintain complete neutrality during the sensitive election period.
Continuous Monitoring to Prevent Fresh Violations
PCMC officials clarified that this operation aligns perfectly with the directives issued by the State Election Commission. The civic administration has made a formal appeal to all political parties, their office-bearers, and workers to cooperate and refrain from installing any material that violates the MCC.
Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Agale confirmed the administration's resolve, stating, "Immediately after the Model Code of Conduct came into force, action was initiated to ensure that no political hoardings, banners or flexes remain anywhere in the city."
He further assured that the drive is being completed on priority and that regular inspections and enforcement will continue throughout the election period to prevent any new violations. This sustained vigilance aims to guarantee a transparent and fair electoral environment for the upcoming PCMC polls.
