President Murmu's Omkareshwar Visit: Security Tight, Items Banned

Indore: Devotees travelling to Omkareshwar in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh during President Droupadi Murmu’s visit on June 18 and 19 will face heightened security measures and traffic diversions, with authorities prohibiting several items from being carried to the programme venue and surrounding areas.

Visitors will not be allowed to carry water bottles, bags, covered packages, tobacco products, sharp objects or electronic gadgets other than mobile phones as part of the elaborate security arrangements put in place for the VVIP visit.

The administration and the police have made extensive security and traffic arrangements along the President’s route, the programme venue and adjoining areas. Multilayered security rings have been created to regulate access and ensure smooth movement.

Khandwa police have issued a detailed list of prohibited items. Apart from water bottles and pouches, objects that can be thrown, including coins and pens also have been banned. Sharp items such as knives, blades and other cutting instruments, along with sticks, umbrellas, tools and weapons, will not be permitted.

Lighters, matchboxes, crackers and other inflammable material have also been prohibited. Bidi, cigarettes, gutkha and other intoxicants will not be allowed at the venue. Except for mobile phones, all other electronic devices have been barred. Any objectionable material will also be confiscated.

Authorities have imposed a complete ban on the operation of drones and drone cameras around the programme area. Police have appealed to devotees and residents to cooperate with security personnel and comply with checking procedures to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the President’s visit.

In Indore, collector Shivam Verma said Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport and surrounding areas have been declared a no-flying zone during VVIP movement, while traffic diversions will remain in force from June 17 to 19.
