Prohibitory Order Enforced at Counting Centre in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: The fate of six assembly seats in Dibrugarh district—Dibrugarh, Chabua-Lahowal, Duliajan, Tingkhong, Naharkatia, and Khowang—will be decided on Monday. In anticipation, the district administration has enforced a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023, designating a 100-meter area around the counting centre at Lahowal's Polytechnic campus. This order bars public gatherings and car parking within the demarcated zone.

Restrictions and Authorized Access

The order will take effect from 5 am on Monday and remain in force until the conclusion of the counting process. Only authorized personnel with valid ID cards will be permitted to enter the 100-meter restricted area. The administration has also banned the carrying of weapons, setting up of loudspeakers and temporary stalls, as well as victory processions and rallies. A blanket ban on firecrackers has been imposed across the entire district. Any violation of these provisions will lead to legal action under relevant sections of the BNSS, 2023.

Public Movement and Daily Life Unaffected

Despite the restrictions, the district administration has not imposed any curbs on the movement of public vehicles. A district official confirmed that buses and other forms of public transport will operate normally across Dibrugarh. Shops and daily activities will also continue as usual. The official urged residents to stay away from the counting centre area unless they have valid authorization. The measures are aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly counting process while minimizing disruption to the public.
