Major Cash Seizure in Dharmapuri Ahead of Elections
In a significant enforcement action, an election flying squad confiscated a substantial amount of unaccounted cash totaling Rs 22.03 lakh from a scooter in the Harur assembly constituency of Dharmapuri district on Monday. The incident underscores the heightened vigilance by authorities during the electoral period to curb illegal financial activities.
Suspicious Gathering Leads to Discovery
Around noon, the flying squad observed more than twenty unidentified individuals congregating near a petrol bunk in Ambedkar Nagar. Upon spotting the squad, the men hastily dispersed, abandoning a scooter at the location. This abrupt departure raised immediate suspicions, prompting the squad to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle.
During the search, officials uncovered Rs 22.03 lakh in cash concealed within the scooter's storage compartment. The money was found stashed away, indicating a possible attempt to transport it discreetly. The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts to monitor and intercept illicit cash flows that could influence the electoral process.
Official Handover and Further Actions
The confiscated cash was promptly handed over to Semmalai, the Harur revenue divisional officer and designated election officer, for further investigation and legal proceedings. Additionally, the scooter itself was seized and transferred to the local Regional Transport Office (RTO) for additional scrutiny and potential evidence collection.
This operation is part of a broader crackdown on unaccounted money during elections, aimed at ensuring a fair and transparent voting environment. Authorities have intensified surveillance across constituencies to prevent any malpractice or financial inducements that could undermine democratic integrity.
The incident serves as a reminder of the strict protocols in place to safeguard electoral norms. Voters and stakeholders are urged to report any suspicious activities to the election commission, as such vigilance is crucial for upholding the sanctity of the democratic process in Tamil Nadu and beyond.
