Tirupur District Voter Turnout Hits 88.59% in 2026 Polls

Coimbatore: In the recent elections, Tirupur district achieved a voter turnout of 88.59% on Thursday, while the Nilgiris district recorded a turnout of 78.90%.

Tirupur District Assembly Constituencies

Tirupur district comprises eight assembly constituencies: Tirupur South, Tirupur North, Palladam, Madathukulam, Udumalpet, Dharapuram, Kangeyam, and Avinashi. Tirupur South and Tirupur North cover the Tirupur city municipal corporation areas.

Tirupur South Constituency

Tirupur South, which has a higher minority population, had 2,76,483 voters in 2021. That year, 1,74,418 votes were cast, resulting in a turnout of 63.08%. Following a special intensive revision (SIR), the electorate decreased to 1,97,091. In the current election, 1,77,778 votes were polled, achieving a turnout of 90.71%. This represents an increase of approximately 4,360 votes compared to the previous election.

Avinashi Constituency

Avinashi, a reserved constituency for Scheduled Castes, saw a contest between Union Minister of State and BJP leader L Murugan and DMK candidate Dr Gokilamani. In 2021, the constituency had 2,80,560 voters, with 2,12,627 votes polled (turnout 75.79%). After the SIR, the voter count fell to 2,53,361, while 2,29,469 votes were cast on Thursday, pushing the turnout to 90.57%. This marks an increase of around 16,842 votes.

Palladam Constituency

Palladam, which largely comprises semi-urban and rural areas, had 3,75,838 voters in 2021 and recorded 2,61,511 votes (turnout 67.09%). After the SIR, the electorate dropped to 3,29,749, while 2,99,174 votes were polled in 2026, resulting in a turnout of 90.73%. The constituency recorded an increase of 37,663 votes.

Other Constituencies

Tirupur North, Dharapuram, Udumalpet, Madathukulam, and Kangeyam also recorded an increase in votes polled compared to the previous election.

Nilgiris District Assembly Constituencies

The Nilgiris district has three assembly constituencies: Udhagamandalam, Coonoor, and Gudalur. While Udhagamandalam and Coonoor recorded only a marginal rise in turnout, Gudalur saw an increase of more than 11,000 votes.
