UP SIR 2026 Voter List: 2.89 Crore Names May Be Deleted, Check Your Name Online
UP SIR 2026 Voter List: How to Check Name Online

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the draft electoral rolls for Uttar Pradesh as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026. The crucial list, published on December 31, 2025, reveals a significant potential reduction in the state's voter base.

Massive Deletion of Voter Names

The draft roll is projected to contain approximately 12.55 crore voters. This figure indicates a staggering reduction of about 2.89 crore names compared to the pre-SIR voter tally. The extensive cleanup aims to remove names of voters who are deceased, have permanently shifted, or are otherwise absent.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa confirmed the numbers, highlighting the scale of the revision exercise. The state had previously received extensions to ensure thorough verification by District Election Officers.

Political Reactions and the "Missing Voters" Concern

The issue of potentially deleted voters has drawn attention from the highest levels of the state government. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently addressed party workers in Lucknow, pointing to a substantial gap. He stated that Uttar Pradesh's population is around 25 crore, and with about 65% being eligible voters (including those turning 18), the expected voter count should be close to 16 crore.

"There is a gap of four crore missing voters. They are not your opponents, but 90 per cent of them are your voters," Adityanath remarked, urging party workers to ensure all eligible supporters are enumerated. The current SIR count of roughly 12 crore falls short of this projected figure, raising questions about the revision's impact.

How to Check Your Name in the UP SIR 2026 Draft Voter List

Voters in Uttar Pradesh can verify their inclusion through multiple channels. The primary method is the online Voters' Service Portal.

Online Method via Voters' Service Portal:

  1. Visit the official ECI portal: https://voters.eci.gov.in/.
  2. Locate and click on the section titled 'Special Intensive Revision (SIR)- 2026'.
  3. Select 'Search your name in Last SIR'.
  4. You can search using two methods:
    • Search by Electoral Details: Enter your state, district, assembly constituency, polling station details, and personal information (name, age, relative's name).
    • Search in last SIR E-Roll: Select your state, district, and Assembly Constituency to view the full list.
  5. Complete the Captcha verification and click search.

Alternative Methods:

You can also check the draft list physically by visiting your designated polling station. All Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) are mandated to keep a copy of the electoral list for their booth. Additionally, the ECINET mobile application provides another digital avenue for verification.

What to Do If Your Name is Missing?

If your name does not appear on the draft list, the Election Commission has established a redressal process. Starting January 1, 2026, a month-long window will open for citizens to file claims and objections.

CEO Rinwa outlined the procedure: The nearly 2.89 crore voters whose names have been deleted can contest the action by reapplying. They need to fill out Form 6 for inclusion. For voters marked as untraceable or missing, proof of inclusion in the 2003 SIR list or any other ECI-prescribed document will be required.

Furthermore, objections against any name included in the draft roll can be filed between January 1 and 31 by submitting Form 7. Valid objections could lead to the removal of that name from the final list.

These forms can be submitted online via the Voters' Service Portal or the ECINET app, or offline by visiting the Booth Level Officer (BLO).

Documents Required for Voter Registration/Inclusion

The Election Commission has prescribed a list of documents that can be used as proof of identity and residence. Voters should keep these handy when filing Form 6:

  • Government-issued identity cards or pension payment orders.
  • Pre-July 1987 documents from banks, post offices, LIC, or PSUs.
  • Birth Certificate, Passport, or Matriculation/educational certificates.
  • Permanent Residence Certificate, Caste Certificate (OBC/SC/ST), Forest Right Certificate.
  • Land/house allotment certificate, Family Register, or National Register of Citizens (where applicable).
  • Extract of the electoral roll of Bihar SIR with reference to July 1, 2025.
  • Aadhaar card (as proof of identity only, not citizenship).

The completion of the SIR process in Uttar Pradesh follows its implementation in other regions like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The final electoral roll will be crucial for upcoming elections in India's most populous state.
