Coimbatore is witnessing a dramatic shift in the 2026 Assembly election counting trends, with the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of actor Vijay emerging as a significant disruptor. In the 2021 election, the AIADMK had swept all 10 constituencies in the district, but this year, a multi-cornered fight is unfolding.
TVK's Strong Showing
TVK candidates are currently leading in five key constituencies. In Kinathukadavu, TVK candidate Vignesh K secured a massive lead after Round 13. The party is also ahead in Valparai, Sulur, Coimbatore North, and Singanallur. This momentum is testing the traditional dominance of the Dravidian majors in both urban and rural pockets.
AIADMK Holds Ground
The AIADMK continues to show strength in Thondamuthur, where party heavyweight S P Velumani maintains a commanding lead with a margin of over 15,000 votes. The party also holds slim leads in Pollachi and Kavundampalayam, though those contests remain neck-and-neck.
DMK Leads in Key Seats
While the DMK is currently leading in Mettupalayam, all eyes are on the high-stakes battle in Coimbatore South. DMK's V Senthil Balaji is ahead but by a narrow margin of less than 1,000 votes over TVK candidate Senthilkumar, making it one of the most watched contests in the state.
As counting progresses, the traditional dominance of the Dravidian majors in Coimbatore is being sternly tested by the TVK's unexpected momentum.
