Lucknow: More than 18.86 lakh complaints linked to power supply disruptions were lodged across Uttar Pradesh in just 55 days during peak summer demand on the power emergency helpline 1912. This concern was discussed during the UPPCL chairman's review meeting of all discoms on Tuesday.
Complaint Statistics from April 1 to May 25
Data presented in the meeting showed that between April 1 and May 25, a total of 30.17 lakh complaints, including 18.86 lakh related to power disruptions, were registered on the state's 1912 helpline. Of these, 29.49 lakh complaints were disposed of, leaving nearly 67,500 pending complaints across discoms. Supply-related complaints accounted for the largest share of grievances. Out of total complaints of power supply disruptions, 18.75 lakh were resolved.
Discom-wise Breakdown
Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd reported 4.21 lakh supply complaints, while Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd recorded the highest overall at 6.18 lakh complaints. Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd registered 3.76 lakh such complaints and Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd logged 3.22 lakh complaints.
Zonal Performance
Among individual zones, Ayodhya reported the highest number of complaints at 1.55 lakh, followed by Amausi in Lucknow with 1.38 lakh complaints and Sitapur with 1.2 lakh complaints. Prayagraj II emerged as the worst-performing zone in pendency management with 4,552 unresolved complaints. Varanasi II followed with 3,046 pending complaints, while Amausi zone in Lucknow had 2,933 pending complaints.
Delayed Disposal of Complaints
The review also pointed to slow disposal of complaints beyond prescribed timelines. Out of the total resolved complaints, 9.01 lakh cases were closed after the stipulated response period, reflecting stress on operational manpower. Zones such as Prayagraj II (40,545), Varanasi II (30,126), Amausi (55,748), Ayodhya (28,861) and Azamgarh (28,865) reported the highest number of delayed closures.
Consumer Body Raises Concerns
Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad chairman and Central Advisory Committee member Avadhesh Kumar Verma said that the power supply system was under severe strain due to shortage of gangmen and contract workers. He said that at least one additional gang or contract worker should be deployed at every 33/11 kV substation. According to the consumer body, nearly 4,677 additional workers are urgently required across the state. He also sought dedicated gangs for sensitive 11 kV feeders where maximum outages and complaints are reported.
