The Ghaziabad fire department has officially marked 42 buildings as 'unsafe' due to their failure to comply with fire safety regulations. This list includes residential complexes, hospitals, and hotels. During verification drives conducted between 2017 and 2026, authorities identified approximately 51 buildings that were violating safety norms. A report detailing these violations was submitted to the district court, initiating legal proceedings against the defaulting establishments. To date, only nine of these buildings have upgraded their fire safety infrastructure to meet the required standards, and their improvements have been approved by the fire department.
Regular Inspections and Legal Actions
Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Rahul Pal explained that the fire department conducts regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety norms. 'When irregularities are detected, we issue notices to the responsible parties and provide a specific timeframe for them to complete the necessary procedures. If they fail to comply, we report the matter to the district court, which then decides on the appropriate action to be taken,' he stated.
Notable Unsafe Buildings
Among the 42 buildings currently designated as unsafe is Ajnara Gen-X in Crossings Republik. Notably, a fire broke out in a flat on the 20th floor of this society on Tuesday. Although no injuries were reported, the fire caused damage to three air conditioners, two tables, and one LED television. The fire department successfully extinguished the blaze, but it was discovered that none of the society's own fire safety equipment was operational at the time. Despite being reported to the court in 2017, the society has not upgraded its fire safety infrastructure in nine years.
In contrast, Supertech Livingston in Crossings Republik, which has been under legal proceedings since 2017, upgraded its fire equipment on March 20, 2026. Similarly, Panchsheel Wellington in Crossings Republik, marked unsafe in 2018, received approval on April 7, 2026. Another project by the same builder, Panchsheel Primrose, which has been facing a case since 2022, made its equipment functional on March 11, 2026.
Recent Fire Calls and Other Violators
The CFO reported that over the past week, the fire department has been receiving an average of 15 to 20 fire calls daily. Apart from residential complexes, Santosh Hospital was also reported as unsafe in 2022. Following a series of tests, the hospital has now installed fire safety equipment that has been approved by the department this year. Fortune Inn Grazia, a well-known hotel in Sector 23, was also found to have inadequate fire safety infrastructure. However, after a recent inspection, the fire department gave it a positive assessment.
Remaining Unsafe Buildings
According to the CFO, there are still 29 residential buildings, home to approximately 25,000 people, along with eight hotels, four banquet halls, and one commercial building that lack proper fire equipment and No Objection Certificates (NOCs). Some of these include Angel Mercury in Indirapuram, Shipra Krishna Vista in Indirapuram, Ajnara Grace in Noor Nagar, Ajnara Integrity Phase-2 in Noor Nagar, and Skytech Merion Residency Phase-1 and 2.
Inspections and Notices
The CFO added that in the last two months, the fire department inspected over 200 buildings to verify whether fire equipment and extinguishers were in working condition. It has recently issued 150 notices to units where fire equipment was found to be non-functional.
