Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Illegal Lake Encroachments
The Estate TDO department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's West Zone executed a significant demolition drive on Tuesday, targeting illegal constructions that had encroached upon vital water bodies in the city. This coordinated action underscores the civic body's commitment to preserving public land and enforcing urban regulations.
Major Demolition at Vadu Lake in Chandkheda
At Vadu Lake in Chandkheda, authorities removed a substantial number of unauthorized structures from the lake's expansive area of 43,200 square metres. The demolition included nine cattle sheds, sixteen semi-permanent residential houses, and one religious structure. This operation aimed to restore the lake's natural boundaries and prevent further environmental degradation.
Additional Action at Ropda Lake in Vejalpur
Simultaneously, in Vejalpur's Ropda Lake, the civic team demolished four illegally built residential houses and four religious structures. These encroachments had similarly violated zoning laws and threatened the ecological balance of the lake, prompting swift municipal intervention.
Road Widening and Plot Clearance in North West Zone
In a separate but related initiative, the Estate TDO department in the North West Zone facilitated urban development by opening a 30-metre wide road in the Ghatlodia ward. This required the demolition of four shops and three houses that obstructed the planned pathway. Additionally, to clear a reserved plot in TP Scheme No. 29 of Gota, three temporary sheds were dismantled, ensuring the area remains available for its designated public use.
Housing Scheme Inspections and Environmental Fines in Thaltej
The civic body also conducted rigorous inspections in the Thaltej ward, focusing on the Shivalay Heights LIG housing scheme. Out of forty houses allocated to beneficiaries, one was sealed for being illegally rented out, sixteen received official notices for violations, one was issued a show-cause notice, and twenty-two were found locked during the inspection. Furthermore, in a move to combat pollution, a construction site in Thaltej was fined Rs 25,000 for causing air pollution, highlighting the municipality's broader environmental enforcement efforts.
These comprehensive actions across Ahmedabad demonstrate the municipal corporation's proactive stance against illegal constructions and its dedication to urban planning, environmental conservation, and regulatory compliance. The demolitions and inspections are part of an ongoing strategy to maintain order and protect public resources in the rapidly developing city.
