The 'fire volunteer' scheme introduced by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to enhance emergency response in the city has garnered an enthusiastic response from the youth. As per the latest figures, a total of 1,038 volunteers have registered, including 1,010 males and 28 females.
Zone-Wise Registration Breakdown
The registration data reveals a strong participation across various zones. The East Zone leads with 275 volunteers, followed by the West Zone with 229 and the South Zone with 195. The Central Zone has 126 volunteers, the North Zone 110, the North West Zone 48, and the South West Zone 43. Additionally, 12 citizens from the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) areas have also enrolled.
Objectives of the Scheme
Launched to support the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES), the scheme aims to bolster emergency preparedness, improve public safety, and ensure swift community-level assistance during fire and disaster incidents. Volunteers will be trained as community responders and will collaborate with AMC's fire services in fire prevention, initial firefighting, rescue operations, and public awareness campaigns.
The initiative reflects the city's proactive approach to disaster management and has been well-received, particularly among young residents eager to contribute to community safety.
