Prayagraj is set to host one of the world's largest religious gatherings, the Magh Mela, with authorities preparing a massive, technology-driven security and management plan for an estimated 15 crore pilgrims and visitors. The 44-day event, commencing on January 3, will see unprecedented use of artificial intelligence, drones, and cyber surveillance to ensure safety.
High-Tech Security and Zonal Vigilance
For foolproof security, the entire Mela campus has been strategically divided into four zones. Over 10,000 security personnel from various agencies will be deployed for round-the-clock surveillance. SP (Magh Mela) Neerj Pandey emphasized the comprehensive nature of the arrangements, leaving no stone unturned.
Visual monitoring will be intensified with the installation of additional 500 high-resolution CCTV cameras, taking the total planned count to 1,100. Every corner of the Mela area will be under watch. Furthermore, 50 drones will be deployed for aerial surveillance, providing a bird's-eye view to manage crowd density and movement effectively.
AI-Powered Crowd Control and Cyber Vigilance
In a significant upgrade, Mela police will employ artificial intelligence (AI)-based management systems to enhance crowd control and streamline emergency response mechanisms. This tech infusion aims to make operations more proactive and effective.
Acknowledging the national rise in cybercrime, the administration has instituted a special cyber surveillance regime. For the first time, cybercrime help desks will be operational at all 16 police stations within the Mela area. Each desk will be manned by two specially trained police personnel tasked with:
- Registering cybercrime-related complaints.
- Guiding and assisting victims.
- Coordinating with the district cyber police station for swift action.
Comprehensive Disaster Preparedness
Beyond crowd management, authorities are fully geared to handle emergencies. The State Disaster Management Authority has prepared an extensive plan to tackle any potential disaster scenario. The framework was finalized in a meeting chaired by Lieutenant General (Retd) Yogendra Dhimri, Vice-Chairman of the Authority, involving all relevant Mela agencies.
This multi-layered strategy, combining human force with cutting-edge technology, underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring a safe, secure, and smooth spiritual experience for the millions of devotees converging in Prayagraj for the Magh Mela.
