The Ajmer division of the railway administration has taken a significant step toward improving rail safety by installing 11 hot axle box detector systems at crucial locations along the rail tracks. This initiative aims to address one of the primary causes of rail accidents: hot axles, which refer to the excessive heating of wheel axles in moving trains.
How the Hot Axle Detection System Works
The newly installed equipment continuously monitors the temperature of wheels on rolling stock, including coaches and wagons. Officials explained that if any axle exceeds the prescribed temperature limit, the system immediately detects the anomaly. This rapid identification is crucial for preventing potential accidents before they occur.
Key Features of the Technology:
- Cloud Connectivity: The system's standout feature is its cloud-based alert mechanism. Upon detecting a hot axle, it sends real-time notifications to the control office via the cloud.
- Instant Alerts: Controllers and technical teams receive immediate information about which train compartment has an issue, enabling swift decision-making.
- Proactive Action: Trains identified with hot axles are directed to stop at the next station or a safe location for intensive inspection, ensuring passenger safety.
Benefits and Implementation
Divisional Railway Manager Raju Bhutada highlighted that this technological integration not only enhances rail travel safety but also improves train punctuality. The detectors are operational across the division, spanning from Madar to Palanpur in Gujarat, and have been regularly checked to ensure smooth functioning.
Additional safety measures include fencing along the rail tracks to further mitigate accident risks. Officials report that timely interventions based on detector alerts have successfully averted potential accidents, demonstrating the system's effectiveness.
