Villages in the Ajmer district are facing a severe drinking water crisis, with supply disrupted for the past 10 days. Affected villages include Sanpla, Sapali, Supa, Gopalpura, Kheri, and Shankali in the Kekri block. The situation has been exacerbated by numerous illegal connections in several villages and leakages in the main pipeline at Titariya village, where valves are also leaking.
PHED Inspection Reveals Widespread Irregularities
Ramchandra Rar, Additional Chief Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), conducted inspections over the last two days and identified such irregularities in more than 50 villages. He has directed the Assistant Engineer (AEN) and Junior Engineer (JEN) of Kekri to remain stationed in Sanpla village until the water supply improves.
Mohan Kumawat from Jawala village said, “We called the PHED, and a team reached our village for inspection and found irregular supply.” The team inspected water supply in Shokaliya, Sarwar, Madhopur, Jawala, Jaliya, Sanpla, Titariya, Kadera, Devpura, Mokaliya, Khawas, Sheshpura, Bharai, and surrounding villages over two days.
Leakages in Bisalpur Pipeline
Rajeev Kumar, Superintendent Engineer at PHED, stated, “We found leakages in the main Bisalpur pipeline in Titariya and informed the officials.” The team also visited several houses and discovered that hand pumps were supplying salty water. A villager reported, “There were more than 50 complaints of illegal connections in these villages, leading to faulty water supply in remote areas.”
Officials Take Action
The officials organized a 'choupal' (meeting) in every village and instructed engineers to remain in the rural areas until the issue is resolved. Rar added, “I have noted all the problems and directed the engineers to report on these issues after 15 days. It will be confirmed on the ground.” He emphasized, “Regular potable water supply during summer is our top priority. I am not happy with the situation and have told department officials to remain alert and resolve any complaints from villagers within 24 hours.”
