The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) sealed a shop in the Shahibag area after officials discovered food waste and garbage dumped inside a catchpit during an ongoing pre-monsoon inspection drive. The irregularity came to light during the deputy municipal commissioner's morning rounds in the Shahibag ward near Namaskar Circle, where civic officials were reviewing pre-monsoon desilting work and sanitation arrangements ahead of the rainy season.
Violation and Action Taken
According to AMC officials, the shop had allegedly disposed of food waste into a catchpit, raising concerns that the blockage could hamper rainwater drainage and lead to waterlogging during monsoon showers. The AMC’s solid waste management department sealed the establishment for improper waste disposal.
“Strict compliance with rules is being enforced during pre-monsoon operations to ensure smooth rainwater drainage and prevent waterlogging situations in the city,” the official said.
Pre-Monsoon Preparations
The AMC has been carrying out desilting of drainage lines and catchpits, along with sanitation drives, in preparation for the monsoon season. These efforts aim to mitigate the risk of waterlogging and ensure effective rainwater management across Ahmedabad.
