Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday launched the first public service centre inside a security camp in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region, signaling a strategic shift from counter-insurgency operations to public welfare initiatives. The event was held at a newly repurposed facility within a paramilitary base, which will now offer essential government services to local residents.
Bastar 2.0 Roadmap Unveiled
Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that this launch marks the beginning of the Bastar 2.0 roadmap, a comprehensive plan to transform security camps into hubs for public utility services. Under this initiative, dozens of similar centres are expected to come up across Naxal-affected districts in the coming months.
Services Offered
The centre will provide a range of services including issuance of caste certificates, income certificates, domicile certificates, and other essential documents. It will also facilitate access to welfare schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Ayushman Bharat. The move aims to reduce the distance villagers have to travel to access government services, thereby integrating remote areas into the mainstream development process.
Security and Development Hand in Hand
Speaking at the event, Amit Shah emphasized that the government is committed to eradicating Naxalism while simultaneously ensuring development reaches the last mile. He stated that the repurposing of security camps symbolizes the victory of peace over violence. The Home Minister also praised the security forces for their role in creating a conducive environment for such initiatives.
Impact on Local Population
Local residents expressed optimism about the new centre. Many believe it will save them time and money that they previously spent traveling to district headquarters for basic services. The centre is staffed by trained personnel from the state government and operates under strict security protocols.
Future Plans
According to officials, the success of this pilot centre will determine the rollout of similar facilities in other security camps across Bastar, Sukma, Bijapur, and Dantewada districts. The Bastar 2.0 roadmap also includes plans for mobile service units to reach even more remote hamlets.
The launch was attended by senior officials from the Chhattisgarh government, paramilitary forces, and local representatives. This initiative is seen as a major step in the government's dual strategy of development and security in left-wing extremism-affected areas.
