NEW DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah is set to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on Tuesday, a cutting-edge platform designed to digitize workflows for cargo processing and passenger movement at all land ports. This system aims to bring land ports on par with airports and seaports in terms of efficiency and interoperability, ensuring transparent border management.
Smart Border Management Initiative
The launch of LPMS comes as part of the Narendra Modi government's enhanced focus on 'smart and safe' borders, leveraging modern technology for security and efficient management. The platform integrates operations across land ports into a unified system, enabling secure and real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information. As a neutral and open platform, LPMS facilitates seamless coordination among various stakeholders, including government agencies and private operators, thereby reducing delays and enhancing operational efficiency.
Government's Commitment to Technology-Driven Solutions
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stated on Sunday that this initiative underscores the Modi government's commitment to smart border management, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and security in cross-border trade and passenger movement through technology-driven solutions.
Inauguration of Stakeholder Facilities
On the same occasion, Shah will also inaugurate newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki (Meghalaya) and Srimantapur (Tripura) land ports. These facilities will further reinforce infrastructure support for border security personnel and other valuable stakeholders.
Role of Land Ports Authority of India
The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), a statutory body under the Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for developing and managing land ports to facilitate trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation. LPAI currently operates 15 land ports across India's international borders.
