A tragic road accident on National Highway 16 near Uttareshwar under Soro police station limits in Balasore district claimed the lives of a 36-year-old man and his seven-year-old daughter on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Manoj Das, a resident of Rahania village under Bhandaripokhari block in Bhadrak district, and his daughter. According to sources, they were returning home on a motorcycle from Balasore when a speeding truck allegedly rammed into their motorcycle from behind near Uttareshwar, throwing them onto the road. Before they could escape, they came under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot.
The accident caused a disruption in traffic on the Balasore-Bhubaneswar stretch of NH-16 for nearly an hour. Soro police promptly arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them to Soro sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem examination. The truck involved in the accident was seized by the police, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
