Amritsar MC Anti-Encroachment Drive Against Illegal Sunday Bazaar

The Amritsar Municipal Corporation (MC) conducted a special anti-encroachment drive on Sunday targeting the unauthorised Sunday Bazaar operating along the stretch from Celebration Mall to SSSS Chowk. The operation was carried out under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill.

Drive Led by Senior Officials

The drive was led by Secretary-cum-Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia and supervised by Estate Department Inspector Aman Sharma along with a team of officials. The action came in response to numerous complaints from local residents, colony welfare associations, and members of the public regarding severe traffic congestion, obstruction of pedestrian movement, and inconvenience caused by the illegal market.

Encroachments Hindering Traffic Flow

The encroachments were reportedly hindering the smooth flow of traffic on the busy corridor, raising concerns about public safety and access for emergency vehicles. During the operation, the Estate Department removed unauthorised vendors and encroachments occupying public roads and footpaths.

Warning to Vendors

Officials advised vendors not to set up stalls on public streets without prior authorisation and warned that strict action would continue against repeat violators. Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill stated that the corporation is committed to keeping public roads, footpaths, and civic spaces free from encroachments to ensure the convenience and safety of citizens. He emphasised that regular enforcement drives would continue across the city to maintain smooth traffic movement and public accessibility.

Appeal for Cooperation

Additional Municipal Commissioner Jai Inder Singh appealed to residents and vendors to cooperate with the municipal corporation in maintaining public order and avoiding the unauthorised occupation of public spaces. The drive underscores the MC's ongoing efforts to address urban encroachment and improve civic infrastructure.
