Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to transition from conventional Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) estimation methods to a real-time, technology-driven monitoring system to strengthen economic planning and governance in Andhra Pradesh. Reviewing the planning department's performance, he stated that the current practice of preparing GSDP estimates once every quarter or annually is inadequate for a fast-growing economy and delays timely policy decisions. He emphasized the need for a dynamic system capable of tracking economic growth every month at the state, district, and mandal levels.
Data-Driven Governance with AI
The Chief Minister announced that the state government will soon move towards a full-fledged data-driven governance model powered by artificial intelligence-based economic analysis systems. Discussions during the review focused on GSDP capacity building, AI-enabled economic analytics, statewide surveys, key performance indicator (KPI) auditing, and integration of technology into governance systems.
Achieving Swarna Andhra-2047 Vision
Naidu remarked, "Andhra Pradesh can achieve the 'Swarna Andhra-2047' vision only by sustaining a 15% growth rate backed by accurate data, efficient governance, and strong institutional capacity. There is an urgent need for officials to begin a large-scale capacity-building programme for employees involved in economic data collection and analysis." He directed authorities to conduct a three-month training programme covering five zones, 28 districts, and 175 assembly constituencies. Officials and staff at every level, from the state headquarters to mandals, should be trained in modern GSDP estimation techniques, real-time monitoring, and data analysis systems.
Training and Workshops
Naidu asked officials to organize state-level workshops, zonal and district-level training sessions, and constituency-level master trainer programmes to improve the speed and accuracy of economic assessments. He also instructed authorities to provide specialized training to at least three officers from every constituency so that they could function as trained resource personnel for local-level economic monitoring.
AI Tools in Development
Principal Secretary (Planning) Peeyush Kumar explained that AI-based economic analysis tools are already being developed for agriculture, industries, and the services sector to improve forecasting and planning capabilities. Naidu suggested identifying additional indicators that are currently not being tracked so that the government can build a more comprehensive and responsive economic monitoring mechanism.
Real-Time Governance for Economic Powerhouse
Observing that excessive dependence on historical data often delays policy interventions, the Chief Minister stressed that real-time governance systems and accurate statistics are essential to making Andhra Pradesh a leading economic powerhouse by 2047. Finance Minister P Keshav, Special CS Vijayanand, and other senior officials were present.
