BBMP Chief Visits Rain-Hit Areas in Bengaluru
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath on Wednesday visited several rain-affected areas across the city to assess the situation and review relief measures. The visit comes after heavy rains lashed Bengaluru, causing waterlogging in many low-lying areas and disrupting normal life.
Key Areas Inspected
Giri Nath inspected critical spots such as the Hebbal flyover underpass, Yeshwanthpur underpass, and several other low-lying zones that have been prone to flooding. He also visited the stormwater drain network in these areas to check for blockages and ensure smooth flow of water.
During the inspection, the commissioner directed officials to clear debris and encroachments from drains immediately. He emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent waterlogging during future rains.
Relief Measures and Public Advisory
The BBMP has deployed pumps in severely affected areas to remove stagnant water. Control rooms have been set up to receive complaints from citizens. Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to stay alert and contact the BBMP helpline in case of emergencies.
Giri Nath assured that the civic body is working round the clock to mitigate the impact of the rains. He also urged citizens to refrain from dumping waste into drains, which often leads to blockages and flooding.
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has predicted more rains in the coming days. The BBMP is on high alert and has instructed all zonal offices to be prepared for any eventuality.
