Belgharia Railway Over Bridge in Kolkata to Close for Renovation Starting January 17

Eastern Railway has announced a major traffic change for Kolkata residents. The Belgharia Railway Over Bridge will close completely for renovation work starting Saturday, January 17, 2026.

The closure begins at 00:01 hours on January 17. It will continue until workers finish the renovation project. Eastern Railway made this decision to ensure public safety during construction.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

Vehicles cannot use the Belgharia Railway Over Bridge during this period. The Barrackpore Police Commissionerate has established clear alternative routes for all traffic.

For vehicles traveling from B.T. Road toward Nimta:

  1. Start at B.T. Road
  2. Proceed to Rathtala Morh or Nilgunj Road and B.T. Road Crossing
  3. Continue to Sindhu Store Morh on Nilgunj Road
  4. Move to Texmaco or Military Road
  5. Pass through 04 No. Rail Gate
  6. Travel via Sahid Bedi on N. Basudeb Road
  7. Reach M.B. Road at Culture Morh
  8. Continue to Nimta or Kalyani Expressway

For vehicles traveling from Nimta or Kalyani Expressway toward B.T. Road:

  1. Start at M.B. Road
  2. Turn right at Culture Morh
  3. Take Old Nimta Road
  4. Pass through 02 No. Rail Gate
  5. Continue on Nilgunj Road
  6. Reach Sindhu Store Morh
  7. Proceed to B.T. Road

Specific Traffic Restrictions

Eastern Railway confirms complete restriction on the Belgharia Railway Over Bridge. No vehicles may ascend or descend the bridge during the closure period.

Vehicles coming from Muragacha side toward B.T. Road will continue using Sodepur Railway Over Bridge as usual. This exception applies to all vehicles except goods vehicles.

The railway authority emphasizes that these measures will facilitate smooth execution of renovation work. They also ensure public safety remains a top priority throughout the project duration.
